Garage Doors Add Curb Appeal

Mar 1, 2024

Realtors talk about it. Home buyers look for it. Home sellers do all they can to achieve it. In fact, recent surveys reveal just how important curb appeal is.

According to Professional Builder Magazine’s 2014 Home Exteriors survey, 60.1% of homebuyers stated great design/curb appeal was the most important home exterior issue. It was the most popular buyer consideration in the survey, which polls builders and architects from across the country.

Another 2014 survey, this one by Remodeling magazine, compares the average cost for remodeling projects with the value those projects retain at resale in 101 U.S. cities. Of the 35 most popular projects, garage door upgrades ranked fourth in generating the biggest bang for the buck.

That high ranking is due to the garage door upgrade being one of the most affordable home improvement projects. Plus, it has perhaps the biggest impact on a prospective buyer’s first impression. The garage doors add curb appeal to your house.

The most popular style? According to the Door and Access Manufacturers Association, it’s the carriage house garage door. Sales have tripled since 2005. Today, one out of every five residential doors sold today in North America is a carriage house garage door.

Other styles that can improve the curb appeal of any home include classic garage doors, contemporary garage doors, designer garage doors and specialty garage doors. And homeowners have a number of garage door material options. They include:

  • Aluminum garage doors
  • Faux wood garage doors
  • Fiberglass garage doors
  • Vinyl garage doors
